"You the student provide us with our finest recommendations"
About Us...
About us | and
there's more | and more...
 Our
usual training area extends to the east as far as Malaga and to Cadiz
in the west. We are required to run both Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper
courses in tidal waters and to this end, whenever the weather permits,
we usually choose the western end of the Strait. We are the only local
school that continually meets this criteria, although we often finish
the course on the Mediterranean side. Competent Crew courses can be conducted
anywhere. For the more experienced sailor wishing perhaps to gain additional
sea miles you will find the Straits both testing and interesting, with
unique weather and tidal patterns.
Nights are spent in one of the attractive and interesting marina's or
harbours along the coast although arrival is occasionally late due to
the need to gain some experience of night sailing.
Courses start at 6pm on a Sunday night and we return to our base in Gibraltar approximately 5pm Friday afternoon. We write and publish our own local pilot book a complimentary copy of which is posted to each enquiry so that you may get a better feel of where you might sail. This can be

Sunday... Welcome followed by a yacht and safety briefing after which we will spend an hour or two getting acquainted with the yacht and its handling characteristics. For the more advanced we will most certainly
carry out some sailing manoeuvres before returning for an evening meal
and to plan the next days passage. Very occasional we will actually leave
if there are sufficient crew members aboard with experience.

to finish"

Monday... Following breakfast we discuss our plan for the day and when appropriate hand over to our appointed "skipper of the day" who hopefully spent the previous evening planning his passage. Then its off we go.
Tuesday through Thursday could be spent anywhere, westwards towards Tarifa, Barbate, Sancti-Petri, Cadiz, Rota or Chipiona in Spain or across the Straits to perhaps Ceuta, Marina or Smir in Morocco. Perhaps ending the week with a meal and night ashore in Puerto Duquesa, Sotogrande or Estepona, with a regular daily change of "skipper", to give all the opportunity to take charge.
Friday morning is spent de-briefing and issuing certificates and regrettably the day bags are packed and farewells spoken. Addresses are exchanged with our new found friends and promises made to meet next year. Same time, same place!
Occasionally when more time is available, on say a two week course it is possible to venture slightly further afield and transit the Rio Guadalquivir to visit Sevilla or further westward to Portugal. If you want more of a family holiday then why not take a course but spread it out over two weeks, giving you lots of opportunity to see the sights and relax on the beach.
